Since the incorporation of the City of North Bay in 1891, Francophones maintained a discreet presence until the 1950s and 1960s. In 1963, a small group of Francophones in North Bay came together with the intention of organizing activities for the region’s French-speaking population. At that time, these early efforts were modest, limited to funding the St. Vincent de Paul skating rink and other small initiatives.
Their experience with Quebec and its first official carnival in 1953 inspired this group to launch a similar event in North Bay in 1964. The scale of this project required these Francophones to unite and form a strong, promising organization.
