A Program for All Ages
Since its beginnings in the 1960s and 1970s, the Carnaval des Compagnons has always been a gathering place where the community could celebrate winter in French by taking part in activities as festive as they are varied.
Back then, dance nights, wood-sawing contests, costume making, and friendly competitions were already attracting families from across the region. These early editions laid the foundation for an event that would never stop growing and reinventing itself.
Over the decades, the Carnaval has evolved in step with the community’s needs, while preserving its original spirit: celebrating Francophone culture together in joy and conviviality.
Today, the Carnaval offers activities for all ages and all tastes.
The official opening and Boréal Day have become highlights, where families gather for outdoor games, winter challenges, and entertainment that celebrates our traditions.
Local creativity also shines: the art exhibition showcases the talent of artists from the region.
The big Friday night dance remains a must, while square dancing—successfully reintroduced two years ago—draws an enthusiastic, intergenerational crowd.
The week ends on a high note with the closing night, featuring memorable musical performances and bringing the community together in joy and sharing.
Thanks to this rich and ever-evolving program, the Carnaval des Compagnons continues to embody the spirit of celebration, tradition, and Franco-Ontarian pride.
Year after year, it remains a unifying event where every generation finds its place and creates new memories.
